From: LTC (Ret) Fernando De Pierris Homepage: http://www.deltaforce.net/aircav/btroop.html Hometown: Mechanicsburg PA Sent: 18:22 - 6 August 1999 Enjoyed visiting your pages (not through yet), a very nice web site to visit; well organized, neat, and informative. Some should follow your lead. I have good memories of the Boxcars, we were neighbors for 90 days in 69 and I had OCS friends in your unit (Larry Self). This past June I took a group from my unit back to Vietnam and visited Chu Lai, Phu Loi, Di An, Tam Ky, etc. we even climbed Hill 376 where on 2 June 69 we lost 5 troopers. Our medic earned the Medal of Honor that day and his son, and widow, climbed the hill with us. Visit our trip web site, still under construction. Nothing left of Chu Lai... only the concrete pad where the 91st Evac once was. Our trip to Vietnam was a memorable experience and we are going back next May, you are invited, around $1,500 will get you there, door to door, all included except lunch and supper, top hotels (have to limit the number of people, 32 max). Nice visiting you P.S. Forgot to tell you guys, went to War Museum in Saigon, and they had a Huey there, Tail #15753 with the 101st Airborne crest on the tail. Being that it was my division, we had a duly picture session. Upon return from Nam I traced the Tail number and almost croaked when I learned tah tit was MINE!! yes, B Troop 2/17 Lift Section! Small world no? Next May I have arranged to "deidcate" this bird to the museum and will be bringing a new tail decal. |
