I've created, with permission, a facebook group for the 178th ASHC Boxcar Veteran's Ass'n. I think the easiest way to find it is to go to facebook.com and type "boxcars" in the search. It should come up under "groups". It is an open group and I've tried to make it so people can share info, pix, ..etc. So, join, if you want and spread the word. Bill Jeczalik

Reunion 2011
The Boxcar reunion at Ft. Knox, Ky. came and went without a hitch this year. The weather was great, the hotel had a good breakfast and provided a great meeting room. There were also a number of places to eat within walking distance. The Thursday tour of Ft. Knox included a meal at the dining facility and a hands-on tour at the combat simulator facility with M-16's. At the airfield were a Blackhawk and an Apache to examine with a bonus of five Chinooks tied down on the ramp.
The buisness meeting was conducted by Davis Clark. It was decided to have the next year's reunion in Williamsberg, Va. in September. John Engles was elected Pres./host;Joe Hawkins,Vice-Pres. The remaining officers re-elected by proclamation. After the business meeting on Saturday evening, there was a raffle held with many donated items. The raffle increased our coffers greatly, thanks John and all who participated.

Joe Rutkowski
Gentlemen,
In the last couple days I have gotten word that 178th CO for much of
1967 (Then Major) Joseph Rutkowski passed away on Friday, June 8 at home in Enterprise, Alabama, from cancer. I do not know details yet...
But will find out, and we will have a Taps notice in the Summer Newsletter.
After being promoted to Lt. Col. He left the 178th to become CO of the
14th CAB. He attended the 1998 Reunion in Dothan and Ft.Rucker, and was in regular contact with the Association. He was 82.
I am sending this to all of you who were in the 178th during some part
of the time he was Boxcar Six.

Someone posted this and a number of others in the sequence on the picture sharing website Flickr, of a Boxcar lifting an AFVN Cessna around Phu Loi. I tried to see the tail # in a larger size, but couldn't. I could send the link to anyone who wants to view more. My em: jeczalikb@aol.com

This is a black and white picture I took of the little officer's club in our company area. The camera was a Yashica Atoron with 6 X 11mm film. The picture also appears in the Nov/Dec 2010 issue of the VHPA "Aviator". If anyone has a news item pertaining to the Boxcar Veteran's Ass'n, send it to me at: jeczalikb@aol.com Put Boxcar in the email heading. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL Thanks, Bill

Christmas Is Coming

Christmas Is Coming
This is a find for Christmas. The JCPenny ad for black friday had this item in it, and I had to check it out. It's an infra red remote control Chinook listed at $34. I bought the Army one ( a Coast Guard version is available see pix on box). The fuselage is about 9" long and seems bigger than the one raffled at the last reunion. The helicopter charges from a wall adapter and the remote takes six AA batteries. I've charged it up, but haven't tried it ( don't want to break it right away, it comes with a set of replacement blades). The price tag on the box is $80, but I don't think that's the regular price. Tell your "Santa" and hope for the best. Happy Thanksgiving to all and Happy Holidays to you and yours too. Bill Jeczalik
