THE LAST FLIGHT OF A/C 67-18445 CH-47B CHINOOK

Submitted by
Bob Nolan Infantryman
February 2000

About LZ Judy and the shooting down of Boxcar a/c 67-18445.

I was in Delta company, 4/31 196 LIB and on LZ Judy the day it was shot down. We were in a hole next to the helipad when the Boxcar came around the hill on its approach.

IT WAS A SMALL BURST OF AK FIRE, less than a full magazine, that brought the bird down. Not an RPG or hundreds of rounds. Must have taken out the hydraulics for the aircraft dipped once and then again before plunging into the jungle.

I was glad to just find out that one of the grunts survived also; we humped down the hill shortly after we found out that Mr. Reid survived.

I thought Mr. Reid might be interested in this information.
